HELLO EVERYONE ! I'M 16 TRYING TO GET INTO MUSIC PRODUCTION BUT DON'T REALLY KNOW WHERE TO START. I HAVE A SUPER AWSOME YAMAHA DJX KEYBOARD THAT I MAKE SOME SUPER BLAZIN STUFF WITH. I JUST NEED TO GET MY STUFF ON TAPE WITH GOOD SOUND QUALITY. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS LIL HOOK UP?
TASCAM 414 MK2
YAMAHA DJX
ZOOM SAMPLE TRACK
THESE ARE THE THINGS I THINK WOULD BE RIGHT FOR ME. THE DJX HAS 15 REALISTIC DRUM KITS TONS OF BASS SOUNDS AND TONS OF PIANO ORGAN ETC. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO MIX ALL OF THE SOUNDS UP AND RECORD TO A TAPE WITH GOOD SOUND QUALITY. DO YOU THINK I WOULD BEABLE TO DO THAT WITH THE 4 TRACK? I'M LOOKING TO BUY A SAMPLER SO I CAN SAMPLE STUFF TO. I WILL BE MIXING DOWN TO A DIGITAL SHARP MINI DISC. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I SHOULD SELL TRACKS FOR WITH THIS EQUIPMENT? DO IT DEPENDS ON THE SOUND QUALITY OR HOW GOOD BLAZIN THE TRACK IS. WILL I HAVE GOOD SOUND QUALITY SONGS RECORDING ON THE 414 AND MIXING DOWN TO MINI DISC? I NEED SOME HELP A.S.A.P.!!! PLEASE !! GET WITH ME.. I 'M NOT INTO NO DIGITAL COMPUTER WORKSTATION STUFF BECAUSE IT SEEM WAY TO COMPLICATED AND IT'S WAY OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE. PEACE OUT PEOPLE

if you can use a computer for cd burning then you can easily get an internal burner for <$200.. if you can't use the computer for this at all and you want cd burning for distributing stuff you'll have to get a standalone which are much more expensive (new ones <$500 usually) so start looking on the used market for those if necessary...

ujamaa7,

Your setup seems fine for what you're doing. One question: what format are you going to output your final tracks to when you sell them to clients? cassette? minidisc? CD?
You're right, recording on a computer can be a little complex at first. However, the best format for clients to have would be either DAT or CD. So a CD Recorder would be a great investment. You can get an internal IDE CDRW for $150 if you look real hard.

As far as how much to charge? I have a friend who does beat tracks for some folks that I know. He charges $40 per track.
