Hi Guys

I have two disotrted guitar tracks recorded recorded by a guitarist. I want
to get a thicker guitar sound (4 tracks) and the guitarist is not avaialbe
to record additionl tracks what are the options?

I know i can't just duplicate the exsisiting 2 tracks because of phase problems
so is there any plugin i can re-record the exising guitar tracks through
so that it changes the 2 new tracks enough, that all four together sound ok and
there are no phase issues, without drastically affecting the sound?

If i re-record the first 2 tracks through some sort of distorion pluging,
does that change the tracks enough so that when all played together there are
no phase issues?

To sum up i want to tack 2 guitar tracks and make them in to 4 (or more) i guess :)

Cheers

First, duplicating a track will not cause any phase issues - it's a identical copy. Now if you move one track slightly off time then you start to have issues.

Your idea is basically good, but I wouldn't add any distortion since it could turn your guitar track into a truckload of mud pretty fast. I would suggest you to record next time a clean signal (parallel to the amp sound) so you have more options when it comes to shaping sound.

Now, what I would do with these two tracks? Try to shape it with chorus, eq, compression or anything you could find. For example cut the top end and smash it with compressor. Go nuts with experimenting! :spank:

Ugh. Just use the two tracks. Duplicating and then processing the duplicates does nothing that you couldn't just do to the original tracks. You'd essentially just be using parallel processing, which is fine, but that's what it is. Now if you duplicate and then slightly slide the duplicates, then you'll get into phase problems that in my opinion sound like ass. Some people like that mess and think they can make it work, but I say they're just fooling themselves.

Maybe you could just add in some more tracks yourself?
If you want a thicker sound, use less gain than he did.
