I know that there is no way to turn a bad musician into a good musician without practice - that's not what I'm asking.

What I am asking is, other than compression, what are some post-production strategies for improving the sound quality of the vocals?

There are some mighty tricks

a.) run them thru antares autotune if he yowles

b.) slightly reverb and chorus can hide a bad micing a little bit

c.) DETUNE up a little on the left, down on the right and reverb afterwards (done on many femal hiphop voices) maybe a little chorus on the detuned ones

d.) you manually can do c) by doubling or overlaying with another take (but thats hard work ;) )

e.) play also with delays and equalizers (maybe transforming it to a telephone song :D )

And just to add to struberg's good advice, shoot him or her before they can breed.:D

Best post -production move - bring in another singer.

And then see if he/she notices. :D
