Ok I was hooking my new mixer up to my mic and when I hook it up the tape starts automatically. I don't want to record when it hooked up. What am I doing wrong?

I put the mic cable in the input by the phantom and then the tape records without me saying so. It is very annoying since I am not ready to record at that minute.

Anyway, any help thanks.

Without any other details, the only thing I could suggest is don't connect the microphone to the mixer.

I did that but then no vocals are on tape. I need the vocals on tape with the background music.

Is there something missing in my chain of events?

All you gotta do is make sure you're singing and the background music is playing whe you plug your mixer into your mic.

See how simple it is to make a record?

OK wiseguy.. when I tried that the vocals erased the background vocals..
Now I have to start all over again.. Guess I will put down the vocals first..

Tape speed? I am not sure. I was told to run it fast because more tape is better sound?

Meh... I think you screwed up the order of the connections. You need to plug the mixer into the mic, not the mic into the mixer.

Running it fast doesn't create more tape right? That would be impossible.
Now, tape speed does equate to frequency response.

Anywho, what size/track count of tape are you using?

Do you know a guy named walters?

Hey Studiowebx - You think you might want to give us more details? Like what brand/model of mixer you are using? BTW, most "mixers" don't have a tape recorder in them, so we really have no idea what you are asking.
Good luck, I guess...

I was told that the tape and the mixer were integrated in the same connected by a cord. So this one does.

The mixer is a studiocraft and the tape is memorex disc.. I am not sure I guess of the phantom switching the tape on..

Well there's your problem. You have this phantom going around messing with your system. Exorcise that, and you should be all set I'd imagine.

Ahhhh.... it's the PHANTOM causing your problem....

That's easy to fix - just turn on all the lights in the room and the phantom won't dare to cause any more trouble. ;)
