Major Fd4 Problem, Please Help!!

I'm using an Iomega 250 meg zip drive for storage. I had it hooked into the scsi drive, turned it on, and then turned the 4 track on, and it keeps telling me that I don't have a drive attached, and then it says void id. Do any of you know what in the heck could be causing this? Please please help if you can. I just got some new drums, and I really want to record them, and then this happens. Doh!

How about the basics? zip disc is formatted/ zip drive is scsi (not parallel port, etc.) scsi cable is good/ zip drive is addressed and terminated/
Hope I'm not being too obvious but I couldn't tell by your post if you had used the fd4 or if it was new to you.

ndxs is correct in all he has listed and are you using a 100 meg disk in that 250? There have been problems with the FD-4 recognizing them in the 250?

If none of the above helps you, call fostex. They have a 1800#. I think it is on their web page. They are good to get back to you if they aren't available at the time. You need to buy a terminator if you haven't already done so.

Something fried the @%!#@ Zip drive!!!

The thing won't even power up now. I have no idea how this happened. Have any of you Fostex users had the hard drive installed into your system? If you did, how much did it cost? Well, thanks for all the help, I'm off to do some shopping...

Sorry man, but don't get excited just yet. Take the zip drive back and try a new one. I wouldn't have a hard drive installed,I think it will cost $300-$400.You would be better off with the zip drive.
Did you plug anything else into the outlet the zip was plugged into to see if the outlet had any juice? Does the outlet have a reset button? If not, check the breaker box.
If the power is fine, exchange your zip for a new one, and call fostex. Once you get started with the fd-4 you will love it.

I think the zip drive should be set to a specific SCSI ID
if I remember correctly the SCSI ID should be ID 6 (look it up in the FD4 manual)

Make sure to check that out too. Read the manual, ask Fostex, look on dejanews.com for other users.

Don't go running and blame the hardware right away.

Good luck! Please post here when you've solved the problem. Regardless if it has / had anything to do with the SCSI ID settings.
