I just bought a TEAC V5000 cassette deck. The previous owner remembers that it worked perfectly but did not use it at all in the last 5 years.
When starting it, the capstan motor makes a big noise. The capstan is not rotating (it rotates a little if it is helped by hand, but has not enough power to move a tape).
SO I cannot play any tape. Everything else works.
If I press a little on the capstan motor, the noise goes way down.
It is clear for me that the rubber belt has to be changed since it is no longer a tight fit.
My questions are:
Do I need to change also the capstan motor, or the noise will disappear completely once the belt will press on it ?
What is a good belt replacement ? (please answer this question only if you know it for sure - I know how to google, but there are two different sizes mentioned
Can anything be done to revive the belt ?
