Hi.
Just a quick question.
Was wondering how you maintain your Tascam recorders ie covering, cleaning, dusting etc.
Thanks.

I had a Neo..with 4 years of use and never needed any maintenance... if anything use a Swiffer duster.. :)

i keep mine covered with an fitted elasticized nylon cover when not in use. It's important to keep dust out of the sliders and such. I toss an old nylon poncho over the rack containing the outboard gear, too. I have a small handheld vacuum that I use occasionally to clean the back of the rack.

Hi RustyAxe.......you probably know this but electric motors (such as those in vacuums etc) are not advised around most micro-processors. There can be times when an electromagnetic field can cause damage. It doesn't happen too often...........and when it does the problem is mostly blamed on normal failure.......but why chance it? My career experience in an electronic field that's not music has taught me that. Just an FYI.

This vac was made for cleaning computers. There's only analog gear in the outboard rack anyway. I only vacuum a couple of times a year when I'm running cables or something.

Not necessarily an electromagnetic field that could cause damage, but I would be more wary of static electricity generated from the high velocity flow of air from the vac. I know my own ShopVac in dry conditions can build up a whing ding of a charge that I usually get when I get near the power switch to shut it off.

arcaxis is correct.....I used the wrong terminology when describing why a vacuum is dangerous around micro-processors. It's the static. I actually recall times when replacing PWB boards and or chips that we wore wrist bands with static discharge clips on them to avoid damaging the components. I assume that's still the case today??? Not sure.
