I just picked up The Eminem Show on Sunday and as I gave it a listen on my monitors, I realized that I don't notice much panning, if at all... and then I popped in some more Dre and its the name with 2001. I'm assuming that there is infact panning in his beats, butits subtle. When I'm working on a beat, it seems I can just pan a little and it seems like too much, but if I don't pan at all, the mix is too jumbled together. Any of you know any tricks? What do you guys do? And don't send me any links or anything... I'm asking what YOU do. What do YOU think?Get back...

Peace,
Springfield

Try to 'spread' your samples. (Not the drum kits' samples and not the bass, but the ones composing your melody).

There are plug-ins available to do this ("Stereo Field Enhancers" I think that's what they are called).

If you use reason to make your beats, try using the 'spread' function on the NN-19 sampler... Seems to help a bit.

Beathoven

P.S.: Mixing your beats right seems to help. Don't tell me 'How do I mix a beat right', there's no answer to that... You'll just know it with time... and then you'll want to retouch your first instrumentals :)
