You can get the same quality results with a $200 mic... just gotta know how to use it, and the equipment you have... I have heard many recordings made with a budget mic and preamp and could not tell the difference between it and a "professional" album... Michael Jackson used a $300 mic on some of his songs... the Shure SM7...

But, I would imagine most of them use Neumanns or some of the high end AKG mics...

this may be off the topic of the thread but what effects do you use, or maybe software, do you use to make your vocie sound kinda robotic and make it not sound much like you if you know what im getting at for like a cool techno type effect but not a wobbly jiggy sound lol
im just curious lol :p

:D :D :D

AutoTune. All over the records by the artists you mention.

The clarity you notice is due to more than just the mic, although the mic is very important. The acoustic space, mic, mic preamp, digital converters, summing equipment, tape machines, and most importantly the vocal technique create the sense of clarity.

But, if you insist on needing to know what mic will get you some profesionall vocal sounds, the Neumann U47 will help you get there.

ive heard that bono and steve tyler both use 58's.... and yes micheal jackson uses a sm7b

I think the more appropriate statement would be that the "have used" these mics on recordings, not that they use them all the time on every recording.
