I played with this MAGIX 2000 software.

It seems to record and mixdown ok but saves it in this .VIP extension?
when I try to change the song to MP3 or burn a CD-R my software states "unknown extension or illegal file"

Whats up with this .VIP extension on the final 2-track?
Each individual track is .wav, but the final mix always goes to this .VIP extension that my converters and Windows Media player don't recognise???

I know...go buy some new stuff, drop that $30 on a new PGMusic or something. :p
but just recording some practices in another room and this would work fine as it is, $5 was paid for this Magix 2000 bargain bin at best buy. :D

.VIP is the "virtual project" file, that has all the settings & stuff.

Although I've never mixed down on MAGIX, so I'll ultimately have to plead ignorance on this one,... .VIP files are the entire project. The tracks should be saved as .wav, (as you said). I dunno any more than that!

I"m pretty sure the "Vip" file is just a Project file not an audio file...

There should be a "Export" option maybe under the File menu which should allow you to save the File as wav or MP3...

You can use other Probably better software that is Freeware...

Maybe try "Krystal" or "Audiacy" or "Reaper" all of which are freeware and will allow you to record multiple tracks and Mix down to Wav....

Cheers

thanks, Reel and Minion
I haven't had much luck with tryout versions as they often don't allow "saving" or "burning"...maybe these brands are different?

I saw the Export thing, I'll try that again first...
but I think there was some error on that too. It was a full blown version as I read the CD case flyer?

Anyway, I was just wanting to record some of my kids practices, so nothing fancy needed.... just that the pc is in the same room,
so why not record on it, ey? Maybe just buy a 4 track cassette would be easier?

damn...why do I get the feeling I'm going to wind up with "another"
HR studio recording system before this is all done??!!!!
:p

Those programs I mentioned are Not "Try Out" or "Demo" or "Shareware" versions...These are Full and Complete software Programs that have Full functionality....They are better than some of the Pay for recording programs and are pretty easy to use and should also be Comp[atible with most of the Free Plugins that are available on the net....

Cheers

the .VIP is the project file and the .HDP contains the original wave file with any changes you made.

you can export the wav or hdp files to mp3.

Magix is the later version of SEKD's Samplitude/RedRoaster, I've used RedRoaster for years as my mastering software for creating CDs of multiple songs.

Magix Export didn't work.

Loaded Audacity and when I record...

track1...is ok

record track 2....but it includes track 1, and track 2?

How do I keep each track seperate? or can I?

Is basic multi-tracking, overdubbing available on these etc..?

EDIT::
Kristal worked! Alright..thanks. Exports in Wave and is working like a true Multi-Track.

still have some minor issues. Playback tracks can be heard but "new" track can't.... I think I can live with this.

Thanks again!

In this case double handy, as REAPER can import Samplitude EDL's, which would probably allow the VIP in and if not, send the vip to be converted by any of the MANY former samplitude users now running reaper

I haven't tried that.

MAGIX VIP import into the REAPER.

Freeware, great...wonder what the angle is? nothings free? or is it?

I'm using an old system and the Kristal seemed to work alright up to 6 tracks and saved to WAVE....

thanks everyone.

tried the MAGIX again and the only thing I can get in wave is the seperate tracks,m they are stored in wave form.

then theres the VIP and a SAM ..think thats it. but my MP3 converter and windows Media doesn't like the VIP or SAM.
