I'm hoping someone could give me some help with figuring this out...

I saw this auction posted on Ebay:

Brand New NEVER USED MACKIE Micro Series 1202-VLZ 12 Channel Mic/Line Mixer. Owners manual original Box. Please E-mail with any questions.

I won the auction and had the item shipped to my in-laws. According to my Father In-Law, the mixer came - but it isn't a 1202-VLZ PRO. Granted, this was my mistake, but I assumed that since this was a "brand new never used" mixer, it had to be the PRO - at least I thought it had to be. Didn't they stop making the 1202-VLZ a long time ago? Secondly, what are the differences between the PRO and non-PRO version.

Anyway, even more disturbing then this is that this "Brand New NEVER USED" was shipped in its original box - it was not placed in a second box for shipping - with only a few peanuts on the top and on the bottom. Does this seem odd to anyone else? Aside from the fact that this person clearly didn't give two shits about packing the item safely, don't these units have stryofoam around them?

What would you guys do in this situation? Granted, I haven't had a chance to see if the thing works, and it could very well work fine. But still - I am a bit concerned with the condition of this thing off the bat...

Any thoughts?

Plug it in and test it... If it works Cool... It should be good for you....

As for how old it is.....

2 ways this can go... Either the guy misrepresented the unit... Or you didn't read the auction properly..

Which one is it.. I didn't quite understand your post..

As for shipping... Email him and give him shit..... Even if the unit is ok... Ask him what the heck was he thinking when he sent it to you packed so poorly.

I'm doing alot of guessing here....... Go plug it in, try it out and then let us know if it works.. and then we can continue with this........

Oh... I just went back and re-read.... Yeah... If he didn't put Pro there, then he is safe... Sometimes it's old stock from a bankrupt store or something...

I did make the mistake of assuming that this was a VLZ Pro - that was my doing. But the text that I posted is copied and pasted right from the auction.

You're right, Joe, if it works, I suppose none of this matters. I will test it this weekend when I see my father in law and hopefully all will be well. But even still, I am pissed about the shipping - I take extra efforts when shipping ebay items - I expect the same in return...

The packing didn't sound too good. Most larger mixers are shipped right in their packing box, although the inside packing is probably much better able to withstand shipment in the original carton.
