Hey, I was just wondering if any of you all had the Mackie Control Universal. I know that I need a control surface, and this seems like the best bet. My biggest question is whether or not I will be able to "tweak the eq's" using the nobs. I know that a lot of the mixer's I have used for live sends have seperate knobs for each band, kind of like a guitar amp (bass, middle, treble). Does the Universal have the ability to deal with EQ in general? Thanks!

I've been using an MCU for about a year and continue to be extremely satisfied with it. Go to GC and get the pro discount. I think I paid $840 for mine.

Yes, the MCU does allow you tweak each band of the per-channel EQ. You choose how to assign the V-pots. They control many other functions in addition to setting EQ.

I find that during tracking/mixing, the MCU has taken over approximately 85-90% of the tasks formerly performed with the mouse.

Of course, this is all in regard to SONAR Producer. You didn't indicate which software you're using.

My 2¢...

Yeah, i'm using sonar 3 producer, but i'm also looking at Cubase SX 2. I'm just not sure if I want to spend another $400 or to buy another program.

How many tracks do you normally mix? I know you can chain multiple units together but can you do much with just one unit and say 30 tracks in Sonar?

my understanding is that you can bank through different "banks" of the 8 faders for a total of 64(?) total tracks being controlled just by the one unit. Someone else could probably help you more than I could.

I can mix as many as I have. There's no reason to buy the expander(s). Just use the bank switch. This moves across the tracks 8 at a time.

*On edit - We were responding at the same time. :D
