I've been pondering a way to do my mixing without the mouse. From my searching it seems that the Mackie Control Universal is the way to go....Based on what you see down in my signature, is this a good option?

(I can afford it if I could sell my damn live mixer....otherwise I would need to use that for outboard mixing.)

it's a mean bestie although I find there's a lot of double fucntion involved for my liking

I prefer the look of the O1X + it acts as a stand alone mixer

I have protools control 24 so don't look at other stuff although I've seen the O1X in action & it's well sexy

Great, thanks for the alternate option. I'm guessing the O1X works with SX3. I'll have to check on that more some other time.

Anyone here with experience with both the Mackie and the O1X?

Or maybe someone has a cheaper option?

I really only want to control faders, etc. I don't feel like I need anything else.

Although I could be wrong.

very, very wrong.

Am I right.......about being so wrong?

What other functions would one need that the Mackie would provide?

I use the Mackie Control, and really like it. The expandability is nice, although with it so easy to bank switch or channel scroll, and with the track names displayed, I've really not much need to add the expanders. I wouldn't own a control surface without the track names displayed... it makes all the difference in the world, especially when bank switching. The touch sensing faders are another great thing.

here's a cheaper option: try your live board. just try it.

analog console seems to work when you don't want to use a mouse. sounds better too.

I've got a MCU and love it - one plus it has over most of it's competition is the LED display of the tracks - comes in handy when you're scrolling through all the pages of tracks...
One tip if you want to save a couple $'s is to look for a used logic control board, it's the exact same hardware as the MCU, you just need to update the firmware - I got mine for half what the new MCU's were going for.

I'd take the mouse and going direct through my Aardvark Q-10 over a cheap Behri or Yammi or Mackie VLZ series for that matter.

I had to have the jog/shuttle wheel and the plug in control...I love the MCU

well yeah the beringher sucks shit i'm talking about a decent console, that seems implied to me but then again i'm dealing with home-recorders. Mixing in the box is bullshit. It's pretty common knowledge that most professionals prefer to mix analog when using a DAW. But then again what the fuck do I know, I've only been working as a professional engineer for 30 years. One day when I learn the secrets of the q10 then perhaps I'll learn! Later sucka's!

yea, well, when people only have the cash for some mics/pres/interface and have to record to their hard drive...it makes analog mixing damn near impossible

not to mention the toll that analog gear takes on the pocketbook...there's 458540768506 free vst plugs out there, but i don't see anybody giving out free rack-mount shit

well said

I'm a sucka with a lot of debt & a damn good setup, at home with no analog desk in place

I have (some) analog outboard stuff

& as I said a pile of debt, cos' that's what it took to get a control 24 mix+ setup
