Hi All,

Anyone have experience with this board (Mackie 1202-VLZ)? Do the monitor and headphone outputs operate independently of one another? For example, if I turn the main volume down to the monitors, will the headphone volume remain the same?

I'm looking to invest in one of these for a monitor mixer, but only if this condition is true. It's nice to be able to turn my monitors down without having the performing vocalist freak out when the level changes.

Thanks for the information,

Rick

Hello Mr. Blackthorne!
I have the 1202 VLZ Pro and I pretty much use it just for monitoring - both while tracking and mixing. What I recommned is to plug your monitor speakers into the MAIN outputs, and then use the monitor bus for the headphones. I'm not sure exactly how I have it setup as I'm not at home, but if you'd like I can check tonight.
I use this with my M-Audio Delta 44 and it works very nicely as I can create monitor mixes independent of the levels I set for tracking (using an external pre). I can also add reverb to the vocal mic ONLY in the monitor mix. Alot of singers like to hear reverb, but I would never record it.
Hope this helps!

couldnt you just use the aux busses for headphone mixes?

Thanks, Evan. I appreciate the input. The 1202 seems like the right fit for me, even if I have to tweak it a bit to get the right results. I like the fact that it appears to have 4 stereo inputs - which is the one feature I need.

I'm looking for a board that will allow me to output my computer's sound card, Tascam FW-1884, MBox, and an auxiliary input to my monitors simultaneously. It should allow me to control the stereo pairs on one fader each. I've been using a tiny Behringer piece of junk and an external switch box, which is clunky. I also notice the Behringer is noisy and I seem to lose some richness in the music somewhere between the 1884 and the monitor mixer. From what I've read, the 1202 is a very good sounding board.

Thanks,

Rick

I believe the main output is separate from the headphone via the CNTRL room outputs. So you can have a headphone mix separate from the the main out mix. Using the sends I think would work but would be mono.
