So while I'm impatiently waiting for my copy of Giga 3, I though I would tool about with my copy of Garritan Orchestra as a standalone in an attempt to establish MIDI communication between my two computers and to figure out the ADAT audio connection. But, of course, I am experiencing problems.
Here is my setup in a nutshell:
I have a MAC G4 (dual) running DP3, a MOTU Fastlane, and a MOTU 828. The PC is a Sonica and I have a Dakota & Montana installed. All hardware on these systems are up and running fine (drivers, etc.).
The "MIDI in" on my keyboard is routed to the "MIDI out" on the Dakota. The "MIDI in" on the Dakota is routed to "MIDI out" on the Fastlane. And the "MIDI in" on the Fastlane is routed to the "MIDI out" on the keyboard. The Fastlane is connected to my MAC. I have configured the "Free MIDI" setup in DP3. Communication between the systems seem to be fine. e.g. When I'm running the Garritan (NI) standalone app, I can see the keys on the program moving as I play my keyboard. Pretty shweet.
I have connected the optic cables between the Dakota and the 828. "ADAT in" to "ADAT out," and vice versa. Correct???
In DP3 I have configured the audio setup to allow for ADAT. Finally, in DP I have set the MIDI track to play my PC "sampler" (which is fine) and then I set an audio track input as "ADAT" and the out to "Analog 1-2." All volume levels are up and the tracks are 'record enabled' (and other stupid things, like making sure my monitors are plugged in).
Problem is I am not getting an sound. I think my limited knowledge of ADAT is at issue. Any suggestions and/or directives would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much. MK
