Im using a Pro Tools package (the most recent i think) with an Mbox2 right now, but just on my everyday laptop (HP Compaq nc6000) Iv been thinking about buying a Mac, probably something like a G4 powerbook. Laptop over desktop for live use. I was wondering if this was the best option or if i should invest in a specially made laptop - iv been on websites where they custom build them for you.

With my current setup, my Pro Tools keeps cutting out, something about needing to increase my H/W buffer size (which iv done to no avail) and the OS held off for too long?? My hardrive is pretty full and my laptop generally quite slow.

I would hold out until digi releases a PT for Intel Based Macs. G4s are kinda underpowered for todays. A duo would go a long way with LE

I believe the intel release of PR is currently prophesied for May. I wouldn't count on it, but I'm hopeful. Keep in mind that LE usually ships a few weeks (at least) AFTER the HD release.

I have a PB G4 1.25 15" and am salivating thinking about what a Macbook Pro might do for Pro Tools...

BUT... there are some rather dissapointing things about that model- less screen resolution, no modem, only 1 FW port, etc. I think I'm going to wait and see what the next generation or 2 look like.

If you need something sooner than that, or just don't want to invest in a first generation technology (wise...), I'd go for a PC built for audio. Even though I love my Mac you still can't really beat a good PC for price / performance. Just DON'T use it to surf the web or do email and you should be fine.

Take care,
Chris
