Alright...
Heres my question...
Lets say I use a mac g3 to record my music with Pro Tools Digi-001. Can I take these finished wav files or whatever macs use and then put them on a cd-r and transfer them to my PC? So that I can burn them? Huh? Will that work? I really appreciate your help dudes...

Yes. There's more than one to do this. You could burn an audio cd on the Mac, and then copy it or whatever on the PC. You could also burn a data cd of wav files, and open it on the PC.

See cause the thing is I want to buy this Mac to use for my Pro Tools computer but it doesnt have a cd burner on it...

if it doesn't have a cd-burner, then how you gonna burn them on a cd? Maybe I don't get it.

Anyways a cool alternative is to connect both machines via ethernet, with a special crossed ethernet cable, and put an ftp server in one of them. Then you can just trasnfer the file this way to the pc and burn it.

Just for clarification, it's a crossover cable and they're usually yellow.

Also, don't you need some app on the PC to network with Macs?

You're right, it's crossover cable. I also remember that some macs (G4's for sure) don't even need them, they can use standard ethernet cable.

If you use ftp software, you won't need it. You can also use the Hotline software, that runs on both platforms. It has a better interface, but it's less flexible. Both work at the IP level, so they are a dirty cheap way to transfer files. They don't integrate as in a network, they just transfer files.

If you have a mac with the Web Sharing control panel, you can even setup a folder as a website, and access it from the pc with you internet browser.

Hotline software is free. The Web Sharing CP comes with the OS. And free ftp client and server software can be found for both platforms.

Check http://www.atpm.com/network/ , it's a great resource for these things. You're interested in the "Move Files" section.

The best way for me is to see if your mac has this Web Sharing Extension, and use that with a crossover cable. It's the easiest and fastest way.

Cheers, Andrés
