I am going to be getting the Fostex MR-8 8 Track Digital Recorder soon, but I wanted to know two things. First, is it compatible with the USB 2.0 that my iMac takes?? If, not what do I need so that it will be able to be compatible??

Second, what digital editing software would be good for a Mac that I could use with my Fostex?

Thanks.

Chris

P.S. I have found so many answer to my questions in such a short amount of time. This was a miracle that I found this board!

Built-in USB port for WAV file data transfer between MR-8 and Mac OS (9.1 or higher)
I would have to say yes.
Logic Audio is an excellent program for Mac's. You can get an older version off ebay for chump change. Perhaps Micro Logic A/V would be enough. The new version 6.0 is quite expensive.

IMO Logic is not the best app for editing audio. It's more suited to MIDI stuff. ProTools is better for working with audio. You can download the free version here and it will run just fine on your iMac with OS 9.

[IS NOT] is a very bold statement..perhaps you have never used it, but it does audio quite well. Yes it does have a ton of midi apps. but the audio apps. do very well indeed.
And I will agree that PT does quite well with Mac's too.
And he never used the word best....the word was good.
And I might add that PT is not the best.

Can't we all just get along?? LOL. Anyways, I am sure that the free version will do just fine on an OSX, right?

Nevermind

I guess you missed the In My Opinion part.

I didn't say that PT was the best either. Of course that would be a matter of opinion as well. :p

Sorry man, didn't mean to piss you off. :D

No biggie, Im not pissed.
Your right about IMO
You may use PT and I use Logic
Its difficult to say whats better than what and really I guess it doesn't matter as long as your havin fun and it sounds good right ??;)

Actually I have checked out Logic.

That is one deep program. Coming from an analog tape background I just find PT to be much more comfortable. The whole 'environments" thing is a bit daunting for a hack like me.:p

BTW I am having fun. Now if I could just get things to sound good.....

:D

:D

I have been using Logic for 6 years and I still dont know some things about it...so yes, deep it is !
Thats why Im so reluctant to try another sequencer. Once you get familiar with a program its very hard to switch.
A buddy of mine got the PT Digi001 last year and I didn't like the user interface because I was so used to Logic, but I didn't realize any difference in sound quality. Now PT TDM systems might be a different story although I have never seen it in action.
But now Im getting off Musicmans topic:eek:
