Mac Laptop Questions!

I cureently own an iMac computer:
--17-inch widescreen LCD
1GHz PowerPC G4
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX
64MB DDR video memory
256MB DDR266 SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA hard drive
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
56K V.92 internal modem
Apple Pro Speakers
AirPort Extreme Ready
Bluetooth Ready--

And was considering getting a rather inexpensive iBook so as to add to portability which is something I need badly. Also, having a laptop would also make things easier for things other than recording. Has anyone ever done something like this? Have all their main memory and better specs on one desktop, and used a cheaper laptop for portability's sake?? Any comments?? I think this could really solve some problems.

I have a 1800+ on my desktop and a 1.3Ghz notebook that I use for arranging and will also use for minor recording on location once I get the Tascam 122.

Having a slower notebook is fine, so long as you don't go nuts with the plug-ins and stuff.

Just transfer it back to the desktop and master it there.
