I can't find cdr burning software on my system....

is this something I have to buy separate?

iTunes can do basic audio burning. If you are burning an ISO image (a data CD), you can do that with Disk Utility.

For more complex burning, there are dozens of open source options you can download free, e.g. cdrecord, cdrdao, depending on your needs.

I use Disco for "everyday" (non-audio) burning. Bias Peak LE for Redbook.

Oh, yeah, and you can burn discs full of files in the Finder. Insert a blank CD and it will ask you what app to open. Choose Finder. Drag files to the CD, then, IIRC, drag the CD to the trash to burn it.
