I've just successfully upgraded my Beige G3/266 to a G4/533 by swapping the processor chip. I did this because my Digital Performer 3 was locking up giving me messages about the processor being too slow and using too many effects. I still get the same messages and the meters are now moving slow, not fluid like they used to. Why isn't DP3 taking advantage of all this new speed and power?

Cuz macs suck!!! HAHAHAHA

Actually I don't think that, I just couldn't resist. Sorry I couldn't help but at least I put you back to the top.

JOhn,

it really sounds like you don't have enough memory allocated to DP. TO do this go to your DP folder, click on DP (the app) to highlight DP (don't start the DP app), go to file-get info-memory, then raise your minimum size & preferred size. Of corse this will ddepend on how much ram you have installed on your mac. Hopefully this will do the trick for you.

On the 266 G3, did you use DP 2.7(x) before DP3, or is DP3 your first purchase & install? I was thinkin' maybe if you were using 2.7(x) before, and weren't having problems, that maybe DP3 just demands more memory?

KH

Thanks for the info KH, but I've already increased the memory to DP3. I've also increased the hardware driver's number of samples per buffer. I wanted to post the exact message that I've been recieving, maybe it will mean something to someone out there. Question- Would my DSL Ethernet connection be the cause of the crashing?

Too much processing or throughput attempted(interrupt collision). Try increasing the hardware driver's number of samples per buffer.

Hmmmm, I don't know John. You might try trashing your motu 324 prefernces, the MOTU audio System pref., and reboot & restart DP-see if that does it. If you haven't laready done so, you might try a custom extension manager system by turning off all extensions & control panels (including apple talk/DSL, etc) that are not absolutely needed by DP? Try MOTU tech support, I know it takes them a while to answer via email, and it's hard to get through by phone.

Did these problems arise as soon as you installed the G4 upgrade? I know of some strories of problems not arising until after upgrades were done. In fact, I had a 300G3 with my 324 & a Korg Oasys card. the system always ran just fine. Then i bought a 333 G3, put the 324 card in the 333, and kept the oasys card in the 300 and made a few system changes on the 300. And, out of nowhere comes all kinds of strangenesses on the 300; sometimes I coundn't record past meas 6 on a stereo track, DP won't save the session as a template, etc.

GOod luck, you'll find it eventually, and it'll probably be something really simple.
