There will be more after this. Pro-tools knows they have the best software. But are losing market share to the competition since they require you to use their hardware. Watch how quickly they start to expand to other interfaces. It's in their best interest.

I'm totally stoked about this. I've got a 1010lt card and have been looking for better DAW software to use with it. Obviously I'd have to throw my card out if I wanted to go protools last year. Now I'm gonna pick m-audio protools and another 1010lt and I'll have mucho I/O and a solid DAW for audio. wee

:D

I wish they'd expand to other interfaces, but not convinced that they will. MAudio and Protools are part of the same company - otherwise they wouldn't be doing this.

They are both a part of the Avid group. I don't think they have much to do with each other management/production wise. I just think Digidesign is seeing the growth of none-hardware based sequencers like Cubase, Logic, Nuendo, Traktion etc, and is suffering from the decreasing quality different between cheap and expensive gear. Therefor, it's a smart move to also make ProTools useable with other hardware. It's just way to easy to buy Cubase, a 100$ soundcard and a cheap pre and there ya go, than buying a Digi unit.

Digi wants a share of the budget market as well, which they accomplished somewhat with their MBox. They still have the best solution for pros, but like all companies, they want more money. More market = more money. They figure if they can incorporate their software into M-Audio products, they'll have a pretty damn big share of the semi-pro market. Also, since their both a sub-company of Avid, there are a lot less legal issues to deal with, making the switch a lot easier. My $0.02
