M-Audio under new ownership

This is probably old news to most but Avid technology (digidesign) bought m-audio... (for the puny sum of $80million cash!!). i get a bit worried when this sort of thing happens, i have heaps of respect for m-audio as a company, hopefully not too much will change. at least it wasn't bought out by someone like behri or korg.

i think its likely we'll see more p.t. friendly gear coming from them , perhaps m-box and digi2's future incarnations will have m-audio pres rather than focusrite... gear like the audiophile and the mbox will be in direct competition, lets hop we don't see either of them sleeping with the fishes..hmmmmm
 
Buying and squashing the competition? I'm worried. I really liked M-Audio but fear they will not be continuing as we've known them.

What don't you like about Korg? I'm just curious as I've had good success with their quality and really no complaints about their gear.

i'm pretty sure korg bought out marshall (amps) at some point in recent history and the recent marshall amps (tsl, avt) that i've heard just don't quite cut it.... not that i can say for sure that this has anything at all to to with korg's ownership....
 
I've owned Korg gear for years also, and never had a problem. (The D8, and D16). As far as the newer Marshall amps, the JCM 2000 series, are some of the best sounding Marshalls they've made since the JCM 800's IMHO.

I've only had success with Korg! They have good products, and great support.We're you just making a blanket statemnet, or do you really have a problem with Korg? If you had a problem, I'd be interested in hearing what it was. Thanks! p.s. I did noticed NOONE sticking up for Behringer ha ha!!!
 
thats cause i just saw this thread LOL.....as far as behringer buying m-audio....i'd bet they'd keep it the same as it was and drop their mic line and make combo deals like a behringer mixer and a m-audio card or an m-audio card and a behringer mic. however....personally i'd feel better if m-audio was bought by behringer than digidesign....i feel like digidesign might kill it or do some shit like jack the price up and call the whole company digi-audio or some crap.
 
Well, crap! I've been thinkng about picking up a DMP-3 since everybody seems to rave about them. But I'm being laid off at the end of the month! This is a dilemma. Buy one now before Digi decides to change or discontinue it, but spend money I really shouldn't. Crap! And just when I thought I had my G.A.S. tamed!

no problem with korg at all, i even own one of their guitar tuners ;)..... i said korg becasue i personally don't like the newer marshalls, i can't say wether korgs ownership really had anything to do with it. and besides the behri name looked lonely in that sentence.

back to the question at hand, how do you think digidesign's ownership will change m-audio ?
 
No need to worry guys....if you read the press release about the aquisition, they said that M-Audio will act as an independant subdivision of Digidesign. As of last week there were no official plans to change anything....they're not even hiring/firing. In fact M-Audio will continue to be based in Irwindale, CA while Digidesign is in Texas, and will continue to do their own tech support and everything. I doubt anything big will change. The M-Audio line is already way to popular for Avid to mess with anything. I'm hoping that by next x-mas there will be a PT LE compatible version of the Firewire 1814. That would rock! Bundle it like the Digi002 for around $750....man that would be sweet.


I think this could actually be a pretty good thing for both companies...

What do you mean go up? Like I said, for at least the next year or so, nothing in the M-Audio line will change. In fact, I doubt they'll change anything unless they're upgrading it. It's not like they're going to start making crappy products. Digidesign makes great software and they know it. Their hardware is ok, but nothing special..especially their lower-end stuff. So they just purchased a company that makes great harware. I don't understand why anyone sees this as a threat to M-Audio products. If anything, Digidesign will get better low-end harware and M-Audio will get better software. No company in their right mind would discontinue a popular product that is making them lots of money.
 
i dont think they'd discontinue it. i think they'd improve software of m-audio and up the price.

Nah that was just a marketing ploy so they could "re-release" "classic" flavors at higher volumes and prices. You can't really do that with technology - it gets out-dated.
