Just a couple of handy hints for anyone out there lucky enough to have an M-Audio Sputnik.
I left my Sputnik with a tech friend over Christmas so he could record with it while I was away.
Also I gave him a spare USA voltage power supply unit and asked if he could switch it to Aussie voltage which is 240 volt (same as Britain).
This is the email he sent me while I was interstate.
"Had a look at the Sputnik USA supply, and its just a matter of changing an internal link plus the fuse value - voila!
Lucky I looked at it, though, because I found a warning that there were a lot of units where the wiring from the 7-pin socket to the XLR was phase-reversed.
Investigating shows both of yours have this fault. Can fix! "
It seems there was a batch of about 500 mics that were shipped with this reversed phase issue.
And it seems if you have a 110 volt or 240volt PSU.... it's not a big deal to convert to the other voltage........
