It does great recordings but when I've used it at a friend's house I can't monitor my signal while I'm recording. I thought it was a setting in cakewalk but I can't find anything. I'm not saying it's a problem with the unit but I never had that problem with the pci version of that card.
If you do get it and don't have that problem I would love to know so I could rule it out as the problem

There is no such thing as a PCI Version of The MOBILE PRE USB.
There is a USB AudioPhile and a PCI AudioPhile.......

And on the hardware monitoring issue, in Cakewalksor M-audio's settings you will probably find a a tab that says "Hardware montior/software montor"....

Set it to hardware!

The USB audiophile is lame, BUT! The USB Mobile PRE is a great little unit if you just doing a few tracks.

What are you recording ShellShock?

I like the Mobile pre, I had one but bought a firewire interface for more I/O.

yeah Im recording rap/hip hop/ r n b...but I think Im going to get the m audio 1814 instead, sounds a lot better..

The 1814 is a nice box IMO. The mobile pre isn't all that great imo. BTW, it's not a studio because you get a mobile pre. It becomes a hobby. I think I have 2 1814's laying around in the closet. They sounded great when i was using them. Now I rarely turn on my equipment. Got bigger & badder things to play with ;)

That 1814 should do you well.
