Hi all!
I just got my TASCAM US-1641 interface and I am thinking of how to use my M-Audio KeyStudio 49i keyboard in conjunction with it. Right now I plugged them both to USB ports, but I am worried that they will use lots of USB resources. Would it be possible to connect M-Audio to 1641 via MIDI (I guess?). Did anybody tried this or have a similar experience with this hardware?
Thank you for your help!:)

The short answer is, it depends.

Midi over USB is a mixed bag and some hardware works better than others. I would try it over USB first and if that works well, then stick with it. Dont worry about USB resources, just plug them into adjacent USB ports so they are not on the same USB controller.

I actually run my novation controller through my GM5 interface via midi since the timing is better

I don't think it is necessary to run the KeyStudio through anything other than USB. It doesn't use up as many resources as you might think. I actually have my KeyRig 49 plugged into a USB hub and I have my interface plugged into a direct USB port. It works fine this way and uses up a lot less direct USB ports, considering my iMac only has three of them. I haven't experienced any latency or power problems with the KeyRig set up this way. As long as you have your audio devices plugged in direct, your MIDI-USB devices should be fine in a hub. It's when you try to plug your audio devices into a hub that you start to have some problems.

Thanks, people for your replies! :)
Right now I have them on the adjacent USB 2.0 ports and it seems OK, no latency with MIDI. I just didn't try multitracking with this setup yet.
