In brief, I am a young self taught electric guitarist and Bass guitarist who does not understand Technical Home Recording jargon and am unsure how to determine whether something is an input or an output.
(I do know however that a Guitar is an input and Headphones are an output).
For example: On the back of the M-Audio Firewire Solo, there are:
2 Balanced Line Outputs.
2 Unbalanced Line Inputs.
I would very much appreciate it if anyone can advise me on the sort of equipment that can be plugged into each of the above as I do not know the difference. I have looked on the web but have only found university level explanations when all I want to know is the types of equipment that constitutes balanced or unbalanced. For example, is a drum machine a balanced or an unbalanced device? Are active speakers balanced or unbalanced?
The instructions that accompanied the Firewire Solo do not actually mention the types of equipment that can be plugged into the above inputs and outputs, which for a novice like me is quite confusing.
Hoping someone can help.
Many thanks
Anton.
