M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R USB 2.0 Audio Interface

Would anyone recommend this for recording drums? Im looking into this and im not sure if I should get it or not. I know that firewire would be better but I don't have a firewire port on my laptop so I think this would be my best bet.

Do you have a PCMCIA or Expresscard slot?

If so, you can get an inexpensive Belkin or SIIG firewire card with TexasInstruments chips (the ONLY ones you want for proper audio interface operation) for less than $50. Try newegg.com....

Hey new to the forum here, just found ya

I indeed just bought a FTU 8 and I like it so far--admittedly, i havent had much time with it so far but it has a nice clean sound--

BUT I can't get as much gain out of it as I thought I would. Anyone know anything about this or have any ideas?
