M-Audio Delta 66 Omni I/O Studio Package!?!?!?!?

Ok,

I have done it. I got my first paycheck from my new great job. And it was a pretty nice size pay so I went straight down and ordered the Delta 66 Omni Studio package. The reaso I did that is because I have been told by a thousand people that the OMNI is a great break out box solution for people that do not want to buy a mixer and pre amps etc...

IS THIS STILL TRUE???

I have been without a job for 4 months and so I have also been basically out of the financial side of home recording.

***HAS THERE BEEN A NEW WONDER SOUND CARD THAT HAS THE SMAE FUNCTIONS AS THE DELTA 66 OMNI COMBO??? ***

Please save me from spending a bundle on something only to realize that there was newer better technology sitting right next to it on the shelf.

I am looking to do some on the fly cheap recording at this time while I save some money to get a better guitar. I have 4 electric guitars and 3 acoustics in America, but here in Germany I only have one acoustic that is not electric. I DO NOT have a microphone for miked recording. All I have is the Dean Markley Pop In Pickup. I am going to try to direct record the guitar tracks with this for the time being. The Delta 66 OMNI has pre-amps built in so it should be ok. Not GREAT... but OK.

Now the question...

I was looking at the Line 6 POD guitar direct recording box. I know NOTHING about that sort of technology. Is it a PRE AMP as well. Or only an effects processor? What I mean is... if I have the pre-amp in the OMNI, and then plug another pre-amp (POD Line 6) won't that bee "too much amp"?

You spoiled brat! OK, maybe just impatient.

Omni = good. Definitely go for it.

Pod/J-Station/etc. are all preamps/effects units/amp modeling processors. To record output from these things, use a line input on the Omni so you're not going through any more gain stages, or, in the case of the J-Station, use its digital output into the digital in on the Delta card.
