Is it possible to connect the Delta 1010 to a laptop for live recordings at gigs etc? If not, what would you recommend with 8 i/o, like the delta?

No...the Delta is a PCI card.

If you have firewire, you could go for a firepod. Those are pretty sweet.

I think they make CardBus->PCI Adapters, they maybe pricey though.
I would look into a Firewire solution, assuming you have Firewire on your laptop.

My laptop only has USB1, not firewire. It chokes when I try to surf the internet, so I hate to think what would happen if I try to record with it! I'm picturing smoke and flames shooting out of it!

Good luck!

is this the kind of thing I'm looking for. I don't actually have a laptop, it's a college project.

uh, no

That gives you two USB2.0 ports on your laptop.
Yeh, i searched for pci, hmmm, i really should look at what it is before i post in future, lol.

Cheapest Cardbus PCI expansion chassis I can find is from Magma, and it is just short of $1000. If you were trying to haul around a $20000 Digi system, it might be worth it. For anything remotely within the realm of sane hardware like a Delta 1010, it's far cheaper to just buy the equivalent FireWire or USB audio interface.

Personally, I like the Firewire 1814 from M-Audio, but there are plenty of possibilities that would fit your needs.
