M-Audio Audiophile firewire

hi,
im new to this recording game but i have read up alot on it so i have a rough idea of what is what. Im a drummer and am thinking of buying this card (audiophile firewire). I was planning on have 1 overhead and 1 snare mic through an audiobuddy into the audiophile. I also have an alesis D4 module and triggers so i was thinking of putting the bass drum through the midi port to trigger a bass drum sample on battery, then id have 3 tracks going into cubase. My question is, would the audiophile work having the 2 rca channels and the midi recording at the same time? Also do you think this idea is a wise one and will i get a decent sound? I have plenty of time on my hands to mess with mic placment ect so i think it could be fun.

This is the interface you're planning on getting, right?

If so, it will work in the configuration you are planning to use to record two audio tracks into Cubase.

But the part that won't work is using the midi port in the way you describe. You would need a way to convert the trigger from your kick drum to a midi note in order to get a midi track into Cubase. The D4 is not equipped to do this. The trigger ins on the back are just that - trigger ins. You could set it up to trigger a kick drum sound and record the output of the D4 onto an audio track, but then you'd be short one input on your intended sound card/computer interface. If you're going to make this a permanent thing, a soundcard like this would be a much better choice. And you can still use your Audiobuddy to preamp the snare and kit mic - the D4 could go in thru a DI.

yep that is the device ive been looking at. I just checked my D4 and it has a midi in and a midi out/thru at the back. So will this work in the way i described (2 audio tracks + 1 midi bass drum) or is this midi port for something else?

Those midi ports are used for sequencing the sounds inside the D4. By 'sequencing the sounds' I mean playing the various kits by using individual midi notes to fire individual drum sounds, but not the way you are envisioning.

ahh thats a blow. Is there any way at all that id be able to do this or is it a no go area? Im only interested in firewire for my laptop so it looks like ill have to spend another £100 for an extra port .
