M-Audio AND Pro Tools

alright you people who like to complain about Digi forcing you to use their hardware just to use Pro Tools:

with the new aquisition of M-Audio, they've decided to create a Pro Tools version for select M-Audio hardware units. looks like if you already have these hardware units you can probably just buy the software.

I am so happy they did this!!!!!!!!!!!! I guarante m-audio will be getting alot more business now.
 
That's amazing.... makes me wish they'd buy MOTU too... hehe
 
Delta 1010 isn't supported - I guess they didn't want it competing with their HD units. I wonder if this means they'll discontinue it.... glad they didn't buy MOTU after all!

the 1010 doesn't even come close to what the TDM units can do. it's more of a 002 if anything.
 
i also agree it sucks that it doesnt work for the 1010....i would trust they're working on it but we all know pro tools is the devil!

But the 1o1o would probally still be the most flexible out of the cards that are compatible

among the m-audio stuff, yeah. but i think they're starting small in the m-audio market for a reason. trying to get the little guys a headstart on things. m-audio is really popular for home studio enthusiasts. probably more people own the small 2 channel devices than a 1010.
 
You're an optimist. Why would they want to make the 1010 compatible? The unit sounds good enough that allot of people would feel it's not worth buying their more expensive gear. Same reason they don't support ASIO and WDM. Time will tell I guess.
 
Yeah I was about to be pissed for a minute there ... I have a 1010lt and just bought an MBox so I could run ProTools...

But of course, the 1010 series isn't even supported, so Digi's lame oversight actually makes me happy. :D
 
I don't think it was an oversight at all. I also don't think that it is pure coinicidence that the best Digidesign box you can get for LE is the Digi002. They want to limit your capabilities with LE. This way there is a very obvious break between LE and any of the TDM systems. Why else would there be a track limitation in Pro Tools LE? And a low one at that. They have been very smart about creating Pro Tools users for cheap, but leaving a definate distinction between those users and the pro studios. Plus there is all this crap about compatibility between LE and HD/TDM systems. If you were really taking your project to a large studio to mix, why would you want to keep everything the way you had it already? The point of going to a bigger studio is to get access to their expertise, their room, their gear etc.... You can do a project in almost any DAW software and still format it so that you could easily drop it into a PT HD rig.

I do however think this is all still a big step for Digidesign though. They have also allowed Apogee the use of some of their technology for their HD cards as well. This too is a big step. And, whether i like it or not, if you are going to work in the pro recording industry, knowledge of Pro Tools is extremely valuable and important.
