Has anybody used this card?
Am thinking that it might make my pokey old G3 Blue & White a workable recording machine for basic VO work. I'm thinking something like a real simple PVC & blanket vocal booth, a mic>preamp>soundcard chain to Audacity or GarageBand - ought to get the job done with reasonable quality, I think. (Feel free to set me straight if you think otherwise.)
My concern is whether there is a big jump in sound quality between this card and the Audiophile 2496 (which requires a faster processor than I am running, and according to M-Audio's site, is not compatible with accelerators).
I think I'd rather put my extremely limited budget toward the best quality mic and preamp that I can afford, because that could also be used for analogue recording; rather than upgrading my otherwise serviceable Mac at this time. I can always get analogue onto digital later if needed.
Soo....anybody used this card? Like it? Hate it?
Lemme know what you think.

So seriously....virtually nobody is using this soundcard?
Is it so awful that the Audiophile 2496 blows it out of the water?
Is it the same as the soundcard in the FireWire version?
Is it unavailable?
.......what?
   :o ......

I don't see the 410 in M-Audio's current lineup, so I would guess it is discontinued. I think I remember considering the 410 vs. the 2496, and decided to go with the latter because I needed the MIDI interface. As far as I can recall, that was the only significant difference I could find.

HTH.

The 410 is indeed discontinued which means support in the form of updated drivers will soon stop if it hasn't already.

Definetly stay away from this product.

The Audiophile 2496 also seems to have its days counted now that that the Audiophile 192 has been released.

The 410 may be discontinued but it uses the same drivers as the other Delta cards like the audiophile, the 44, 66 and 1010(LT) so I suspect that the 410 will be supported as long the others are as well.

Thanks for the input - looks like there's hope for me yet!
Anybody got a killer source for such discontinued items?
(Besides ebay?)

I bought a Delta 1010 a few years back, 8 inputs was all I ever needed at one time. However, I do like my hands on mixing with a real desk so I bought a Delta 410 and added it to give me 16 outputs back to the desk. The card worked so well I added a second giving me 24 outs back to the desk.

The 410 is unbalanced so keep your cable runs short. I've never used the 2 analog inputs on either of my 410's but the S/PDIF inputs give the same results as the S/PDIF input on the 1010, surprised?

If you're laying down a track at a time the 410 is a good affordable card for a begginer wanting to bring all the tracks back out to a desk. They come up on ebay once in a while and I'm sure if you shop around someone might still have a few on a shelf somewhere. I seem to remember a video website recently advertising them as 7.1 surround cards Hmmmm

Yeah thumbs up for the 410. Even when I get around to buying another two 1010s I'll keep a hold of the 410's and use one for sending effects back to the desk and keep the second as a spare for emergenciess

I just got one at newegg.com for $78, check em out...

It would probably be a good choice considering.

However, what are your machine's specs?

I had/am still having some problems with my Delta 1010LT's MIDI ports and M-Audio's support is really unhelpful because my machine is not above their "current" minimum requirements for a processor. I've argued with them over this, but they continually shoot me down.

[Sigh] it meets the requirements on the box... it even mentions 10.3. They lie. x.x

Best price I've seen - thanks!
Also thanks for the other input (ugh, punny) from everybody.
Will be taking the plunge next week, I think - I'll let you all know.
