i have an M-AUDIO, audiophile 2496, (using it with logic 5.5, and a behringer eurorack mixer)...
sometimes as i am adjusting some settings like sample rate, patcbay router etc a message pops up telling me an error has occurred whilst talkin to the hardware and to restart the machine (though still carries out the changes). does this sound serious?and could it be the reason for the following problem?.....
i am using logic 5.5 and...to cut out latency i uncheck the software monitoring boxes in audio preferences, and check the wavout 1/2 in patchbay/ router but...this means i can hear the play back of any audio but not any audio in real time, but alternatively if i tick the monitor/mixer box then i can hear the realtime sound but now cannot hear any playback, how do i set up the audiophile card in order to hear both and so monitor and play along at the same time, without having to tick the software monitoring boxes (incurring latency). ??

Many settings are not meant to be adjusted while the driver is in use, particularly don't change sample-rate. Close your DAW program before doing that.

With the patchbay routing for HW out 1/2 set to use the monitor mixer, whatever is turned up and not muted in the mixer is what you hear from the analog rca outputs. So you can hear playback and live input as you like.
You must not use software monitoring at the same time. If you do want to monitor input FX in the DAW program, enable its software monitoring but mute the input faders in the monitor mixer. Don't select the monitor mixer for a tracks recording device or you'll record the monitor mix!
