i want more inputs, for recording drums. i have an omni studio with the delta 66 from m-audio. that gives me 4 inputs. i heard somewhere that m-audio cards wont sync with any other brand, so i was thinking the 1010lt. but it looks like it has RCA plugs sticking out throught the back. what am i gonna do with those? i want 1/4" plugs to use with outboard preamps. what should i do guys?
thanks,
rob

You can use 1/4"-rca converters.

You can sync the 1010LT to the 66 via s/pdif for a total of 12 analog inputs

well....

...i should have written that my price range is what the 1010lt is, around $300. i wish i could get the 1010. but it seams a lil silly knowing that my other sound card is no more than $150. if i use RCA to 1/4" converters, will it degrade the sound at all?
thanks,
rob

Not if you keep you cable runs under 20ft.

Edit: & you can get the LT for $220 at zzounds

thanks

is it worth the price to buy the 1010 instead of the 1010LT?
thanks,
rob

The 1010lt is attractive to me b/c of the 2 pre's since my mixer only has 4. But that mess of wires and adapters... blah. I think I'm gonna have to go for the 1010 and upgrade my vlz1202 eventually. Those mackie 1604's are looking pretttty nice...

The LT just doesn't seem very practical to me, especially if you have a mixer. What do I know, though.

I don't know about you, but I never unplug the leads between mixer & soundcard.

Plug and ..er... forget

I also have a 1010LT with mixer and I just plug it in and leave it.

i dont see why you would unplug...thats a recepie for a headache.

I use the 1010LT with a Mackie 8 bus and a VS1680 Roland.
All in sync. It's a great card and yes you can use adapters, I do. Not Radio Shack but gold plated ones. Do you want to be able to eq and effect and pan all individually in the PC? Or just get a good mix going in. If the latter is the case, then I would get a descent little mixer so you can sub mix to 4 outputs. Like they say, then leave your card wired and left alone. I think 4 going in is plenty. You don't have to think in stereo and the external mixer can be used for many other things, including eq and mixdown, with analogue compression and stuff. It is the best sound in my opinion.

1010lt

hi guys,

well, i am a drummer and was wondering if you guys could help me out on the issue of the right sound card.i dont know whether i should buy a delta 1010lt. and a mixer or whether i should go for the presonus firepod.which do you think should be the best option.

I assume the presonis has a firewire or USB out.
It is a good solution too. I like the converters in the MAUDIO stuff, and haven't heard the Prosonus unit so I can't really comment. You need a firewire card in your PC if you don't have already. USB iis standard and Firewire cards are becoming a standard but not necessarily so, in new PCs.
It seems on their site (Presonus) they say you get a free copy of Cubase LE with the unit. It is the basic software, but may be all you need.

It boils down to what you like. Have a listen to both. I know I love the sound of the Maudio.

what kind of adapters do you guys use to go to 1/4 inch jacks? Maybe it might be worth building a breakout box for this thing? I build stompboxes, so I can't imagine doing something like this would be all that difficult...

You mean 1/4" to rca?

The adapters I use just have a female 1/4" socket at one end, and a male rca pin on the other
