hey all

First up, I just joined the forum and hope to be around here quite a bit since I'm not only in two bands but I hope to do some serious recording of both of them, not to mention my own stuff.

SO

My first post here has to do with the Tascam M-216 board I just got. I've pretty much figured out how it all works, except for the whole issue of outputs and where they should go. Here's what I gather...correct me if I make any mistakes:

The PGM OUT phono plugs go to the 8 inputs of my Fostex R8.
The stereo outs go to the monitor amp (in my case, my stereo) which in turn feeds the Hi-Fi VHS VCR I use for mixdown.
FLB OUT goes to the headphone amp. I assume that this is a stereo 1/4" like a headphone jack.

So far am I correct?

One other question: I've been spoiled by the two AUX sends and returns on my Portastudio 424mkII, using it for stereo reverb effects like having two tracks panned hard left and right, and the reverb for each track coming out of the opposite channel. Now, I noticed that the M-216 has ONE aux send and two aux returns. So does this mean that I can't do funky stereo effects tricks like that anymore? Not that this is really a problem, I probably should be more conservative with reverb anyway...

Wrong.

These are mono buss outs. TS plugs. Not designed for driving headphones directly. Hook that up to a headphone distribution amp which will power the cans.

M216's headphone out jack offers a 1.5 wpc rms headphone amp that if used with lower impedance cans, could be split off a few times and still give everyone tinnitus.

Everything else is good!

Cheers! :)

Mono buss outs? TS plugs? I don't follow...plz explain. What I meant was the single FLB 1/4" jack near the L/R outs...I was guessing that it is stereo, ie 3 conductors, so connects to a headphone distribution amp via a stereo 1/4"-to-1/4" cable.

Actually,

Fold-backs are inputs. Not outputs.

It would have to say something more then just fold-back there on the back panel.

I'll check the paperwork and post back soon.

Cheers! :)

OK, I figured it out.

FLB is a mono, quarter inch cue mix output.

This output represents the green row of knobs where you can assemble a cue mix for talent or it could be used a a pre-fader effects send mix output as well.

It is definitely not stereo and not balanced. It is a 0db output as apposed to the RCA pin jack outs, which are -10db outs.

Sorry for the confusion on my part. It's been a while since I owned that board and had to check through my documentation on the board to confirm this.

I take it, you don't have the manual.

Cheers! :)
