To the guys out there...

Ever catch yourself sounding, gesturing like your father, and it kinda freaks you out a bit as you realize that you carry on certain traits. Thankfully, my father is still alive, but I was compelled to write the following...

SON OF A GOOD MAN
© Tom Guertin All rights reserved

(Verse 1)
At times I speak and hear a voice
Echo in my mind
I seem to recognize the sound
Of words now left behind
I catch myself in phrases
A piece of what I am
Then suddenly I realize
I’m part of another man

(Chorus)
I hear my father talking, but recognize it's me
Tho' he left to join the Son of God
It's through his eyes I see
Every now and then, I gesture with his hands
These are things I hold so dear
As the son of a good man

(Verse 2)
He taught me to be a gentleman
And hold a woman near
He showed me how to mend a heart
And overcome my fear
Every day I think of him
As if he were at my side
And as I speak I am reminded
That he hasn't really died

(Chorus)
I hear my father talking, but recognize it's me
Tho' he left to join the Son of God
It's through his eyes I see
Every now and then, I gesture with his hands
These are things I hold so dear
As the son of a good man

(Bridge)
When my sons grow tall
And I finally fall
I pray someday they'll hear
My voice of all these years...

(Chorus)
I hear my father talking, but recognize it's me
Tho' he left to join the Son of God
It's through his eyes I see
Every now and then, I gesture with his hands
These are things I hold so dear
As the son of a good man

Seems like a good text. Remember Father and Son from Cat Stevens. A great song. A boyband did a version of it some years ago. Think it was Westlife. A short song with only verses. Beautiful.
You have a melody for this one?
