Mountainmirrors

kaleidoscopic renegade
Hey all -
The title track to the new Mountain Mirrors LP is at

It was recorded with CEP, a Johnson J Station, Rode NT1 mic and a Presonus Blue Tube preamp.

That insane violin solo was played by Brad Athey (Gascap).

It has sort of a Beck influence...maybe a little Massive Attack meets Hawkwind? Hope y'all dig it.

Very Best,
Jeff

Cool vibe. Sounds like you got a little pink floyd in ya, too.

The vocal pitch drift bothered me a bit in spots - kind of sliding into the pitch, if you know what I mean. But maybe that's the style? You mentioned Beck, so maybe that's the type of thing you're going for?

The vocals sounded a little dark for me - seemed to be slightly buried in the mix. Maybe a little more compression might bring them out? Hmm...

When the lead guitar came in at first, I was thinking that I wished the song had ended at the 2 minute mark... but then I got into it and it worked well.

Cheers,
Brendan

I really like the drums in this, I used to be into Beck quite a bit so I can appreciate. I would have liked my feeling in the vocals, seems kind of uninspired?? Not sure if that's the right word to use, it may be a laid-back vocal you're going for...

The second half is pretty cool, it's a very dark song.

Hmmmm.... nice tune, but I hear something like a scratch on a vinyl record at the very beginning, and also when the drums solo in the middle there's an audible crackle.

Re-listen - there's crackles all through the song.

Listening on a pair of Samson Resolv 50a's.

The vinyl cracks are supposed to be there :-)
Thanks for all the input guys!

I really like your style!!!! The song is great, but it needs more bass, especially for this kind of music. My body wants to start groovin' to it, but there just isn't a steady bass line to kick it into gear. The bass guitar is used way too sparingly and it is a little too low in the mix. Vocals could use a little work here and there too. I love the sound though. The effects that come in right before the guitar solo are killer. Damn, I'm going to have to go smoke a bowl now.

CHEERZ!!!!

Yes. I agree with you. IMO when I got it back from mastering, the bass had been sapped from it quite a bit. But on a system with decent woofers it is a beast:-)

BTW don't bogart that...
