I did a search and didn't come up with much info on the Rydeen. I'm a guitar player looking to get into drums with a cheaper starter kit. I can get the Ludwig Accent for $370 at Musicians Friend with the Zildian Planet Z Hats and Crash/Ride, or the Yamaha Rydeen for $500 with Hats, Crash, and Ride cymbal. I've tried the Accent at a local store, but unfortunately no one around here carries the Rydeen set. The Accent sounded good for the price, but still looked and felt a little cheap, would the Rydeen set be worth the extra $130 ($60 really if you factor in the extra ride cymbal)? The hardware looks a little more solid than the Accents in the pics I've seen, but if anyone who's tried both sets I'd appreciate your input.

go with the rydeen,it's solid as a rock, the accent kept moving around on me,toms would separate and bass drum spurs weren't strong enough and it kept moving foward.

and besides yamaha makes some of the best sturdiest hardware i've ever tried.

Yeah these two kits can not be compared. The Ludwig Accents even have a cheap look to them, the wood is not so fine finished and the sound is not so great. The rhydeen are amazing, even I would use that kit for gig and be happy.

I own a set of Rydeens. If you watch, you might see some in the clearance section in about a week because I think I will return mine to Musician's Friend. They shipped me a mismatched kit in two different colors.

As for the drums...

Nice. Good heavy hardware. Solid. I am not in love with the heads but the drums overall are very well put together. The cymbals are so-so, but the kit is quite nice.

I don't see how you could go wrong with them to be perfectly honest.

Ouch that sucks. I was looking at getting mine from them too since they throw in the cymbals. Are they actually Ziljians like the catalog says (Planet Z 4 pack?). Anyway, I hope you get that straightened out, I've never had a problem with MF in years of dealing with them, and the last 2 orders they've screwed up, and I'm still haven't seen one of my refunds post to my credit card yet. Must be the holidays .
Thanks everyone for your opinions, looks like the Rydeen is the way to go.
