we don't need rest!!
does anyone know if the Lucid Genx6 is the same as the SSG192, without all the bells and whistles...same clock...not all the connections? Or...is there a better clock that I might hook to my Layla than the Lucid? I'm not looking for a "one box does it all", which the SSG192 appears to be, but rather just improving the definition on my tracks. Or....am I just wasting my time and money using a Lucid with my Layla?

Mix, I don't believe it's the exact same clock in both units. I use a GenX6 (first generation, mine only does 44.1 and 48K) with my system and I can hear the improvement. There's a 96K version of the GenX6 that's a bit more. The SSG192 has more bells and whistles and I believe can do different clock types (word and Superclock) simultaniously. Sjoko I'm sure can amplify on this.

The GenX6-96 has switchable word/superclock on each of it's six outputs.

I know I can use a clock for ADATs and digital mixer and my MOTU 2408 but what about midi? I think I have been getting some jitter in there and I don't like it. I only use a Midiman 2x2 USB. Would i need a huge rackmoutn interface that takes wordclock?

Jitter is a digital audio issue and is not relevant to midi....

perhaps the word I am looking for is uneven? I use the metronome feature of Cubase and send it out to my keyboard and it flucutaes. Not always, but sometimes it is VERY noticable.

uneven.

So, a clock would not help so much?

If midi timing is a problem, you need a box that sends out midi clock. A box that generates word clock has nothing to do with midi - a sequencer can neither recognize or utilize it.

It's two completely seperate problems that require completely seperate solutions.

However, there may be some units that do both in one box - maybe something like the Mark of the Unicorn Digital Timepiece. But the word clock on that unit is certainly not anywhere near the same quality as the Lucid.
