Functionally obsessed.
I've heard someone of questionable 'experience' suggest that tape heads should be lubed.

Thoughts?

That's what I was thinking. If you lubed the heads, wouldn't all the lube end up on your tape? Imagine using 2500 feet of toilet paper on your bottom... ha ha ha.

I wouldn't do it...there is the potential of lube getting in the tiny nooks and crannies and adhering foreign material to the head. Head should be clean and dry.

Anybody else have thoughts?

hm...I wonder if I could save money on TP by using old sticky-shed tape...

Based on one I saw today that amount would only get 1/2 the job done and that's in one sitting!!!

Remember, the job's not done til the paperwork is completed!

someone of questionable 'experience'

I wish people with Questionable experience would just shut up. Every heard the expression "A Little Knowledge is a dangerous thing" Alexander Pope (1688 - 1744).

Any oil near the heads will get on the rubber pinch and counter wheels of the machine, then it's all over.

Alan.

A guy I knew said he used to kiss his girl on the lips but it's all over now!!!

Might be the same situation!!!

YEEEAHHHH.

That Expert Village stuff came up in another thread some time ago. Sadly entertaining in a dismal way.

I've done plenty of stupid stuff but at least (generally) I realize at some point it was stupid and then then at least I don't put up youtube vids of it passing it off as "expert".

Hm...wonder if mr. tapeandtape knows the expert village folks...

When you posted this thread I was wondering if you were getting your advice from the village idiots.

Are these the same folks as the Village People?

Were they not in the Y M C A?

Man I love these guys, we need more of these so-called "experts" to mislead the newbies. Teach em to buy all the expensive machines, 'restore' them as per instruction from Expert Village then when they find that they're 'restored' machine is all messed up and sounds like crap, they can sell it off cheaply to me. :D

Get a Q-tip or small paint brush and give the heads a good coating of Elmer's glue. When the glue is dry, spray them with WD-40. Then give them a good rub down with Armor All. This will protect the heads and make them nice and slippery.
