I've got an extensive collection of CD's and am unhappy with the perfect, noise free sound. Would like to make duplicate CD's and would appreciate suggestions on software that would add "pops and clicks" to make them sound like LP's.

Esteve, there's software out there (cool edit..etc...see all the info on editing on this site) that will pretty much eliminate hiss, pops etc from lps to cds...you'll be amazed and amused...and easy...gibs

In the spirit of general recording dogma:
Why not try cleaning the LPs before playback? Much of the click and pop stems from collisions with debris in the stylus path
and not deformation of the media surface.
Be gentle. Take your time. Rinse well with D.I. water. And let it dry somewhere just above room temperature. Why not experiment on a 1$ LP from wherever first including listening to it before and after as part of the project. Then proceed to the real deal.

Thanks for advice, downloaded demo of cooledit 2k, seems a bit robust for my needs, and looks like lp specific filters are a post-purchase plug in.

as to debris on albums, I am a firm believer in cleaning with dilute palmolive, drying with good clean cloth, and always clean with parostat or similar just prior to playing. All albums have been protected with plastic sleves, good portion are Japanese masters, picked up curtesy of USN tour. Neat stuff like Stomu Yamashta GO album, 16 original virgin (how do they determine this) vinyl Beatles and the requisite "Super Session"... have yet to spot this genere at corporate music store.

Thx again SB

Sound Laundry works pretty well. I use it on old shellac and vinyl 78s which are pretty messed up and it does a fairly good job of supressing the crackle, clicks and hiss. All of these types of noise reduction software tend to add weird artifacts to the recording, though. So you should shop around a little and check out some demos before buying.
Here's a link to the SL site: http://www.algorithmix.com/

Good luck!
