Pitch is one thing, but can't the singer at least come in on time? Sounds like she thinks the speakers are a hundred feet away and she's trying to compensate for the time lag...

i think thats a difference in artistic perspective...cuz i've NEVER heard a comment like that about her before...thanks for peepin anyway

Not really my kind of music, so I don't know what you're going for without listening to some references. But to me the drums sounded thin and very stiff, even for programmed drums. The vocals also sounded thin; overall the mix didn't gel for me. Nice idea musically, though.

ok how about suggestions on fixing those problems?

the vox was tracked i think thru marshal mxl 1003 into mackie pre's..so a retracking might be a better approach since i have much superior equipment now

what drums sound thin ?the snare? the main kick?(i highly doubt that one) the drum fill?

It's difficult to describe what I'm hearing, but if you've got some better gear now I'd try retracking the vocals, work on finding a good mic that compliments the singer. Also when you double the vocals you might try pulling down the highs on the doubles so you don't get that harsh upper mid sound.
I think it's mainly the snare that sounds thin to me. I'd just try some diffent sounds. But that's me; like I said it's not my kind of music, and from what I know R&B production values are constantly changing and often in ways that seem counter-intuitive to me.
Sorry I can't be more helpful; I'm just telling you what I hear. Take it for what it's worth.

No, seriously, it sounds like she comes in a bit bungled up, just a bit rushed or starting an instant too late and she sounds like she's not found the groove for that whole first couple of words... a singer has just got to nail that stuff or it sounds bad, especially in such an obvious place as the very start of the vocal...
