Low sound levels after Audio Mixdown

Hi,

When I play what I have recorded in cubase, the Audio levels are just fine, pretty loud actually but when I mix it down to audio, either wav or Mp3 the levels lower significantly. Now I have tried to mix down in the highest possible quality but to no avail. I have also tried mixing down to a wav and then imported that back in to cubase, heightened the sound levels and mixed it down again, but I can´t heighten it much without getting clicks and even then the levels are still frustratingly low.

Any ideas or advices, or is this just a matter of poor mixing.

What are you metering the levels with? You could just be hearing the level difference of the different playback devices.
