Treeline,

Is this the song you were talking about on the N-Track forum?

Was this recorded with your Toshiba laptop?

I can only do lo-fi right now, but from what I hear, it sounded pretty damn sweet! I thought the vocals were a little off, but being a late-century kid, it's been difficult for me to get used to stuff done "in the raw" (no wisecracks about my stuff from the peanut gallery).

That said, let's just say, I liked it!

Hey Treeline,

I just listened to this tune and I really dug it. It has that "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou..." blues/folk feel to it. I really don't think you need a bass on it, in its simplicity it sounds awesome.

I liked what you did with the vocals, though at times they sounded a little bit too high in the mix (though I can only listen "lo-fi" so it probably sounds a lot better on your system)

I liked the guitar playing (I kind of caught the "weak" moments you mentioned, but didn't feel that they took away from the song)

When/if you do get a bass on there, re-post it and I'll take a listen, but I really think that it has a great quality about it without the bass. Kind of a downhome/simplistic quality that is hard to keep once it begins being overproduced.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the input!

Shaky - Yes, this is the same tune, done on the PC with the SB card. It was nearly all done and then lost when the program crashed. So I did it all over again and mixed down when I should have been asleep.

Boydrj- Thanks for the kind words. My wife gave it a critical listen and had some suggestions that connected with my own sense of it. I think it needs less, not more.

By that I mean the harmonies are too forward; it's hard to pick out the melody line with this mix (attack of the fatigued ears). Then, I've got everything harmonized, and in exactly the same fashion from verse to verse. It makes the tune a little too predictable. So I'm going to fool with the mix and try out a few different combinations.

It does need a banjo, though. Kind of like the one I saw downtown last week... with the inlay...

Hey Treeline,
It's me your long lost cuzzin' from the Mayflower days. I really liked your rendition but then I guess I'll always have a pallet laid down soft and low on the floor of my heart for Mississippi John. Being a drummer/percussionist I've always considered myself an acoustic musician and sometimes I get real tired of having to compete decibelwise with Ampegs and Twin Reverbs oftimes with just my bare hands.
As far as our ancestors go I have no prob with that whatsoever although mine wasn't the captain of the ship but the head preacher man and being that those folks were hardcore fundamentalists he probably had something to do with your ancestor getting thrown overboard and perhaps even made him sew a big red A on his tee-shirt. Unlike my predecessor I am not only totally in favor of sex but I also highly recommend it.
¡Keep on keepin' on!

Hmmm. Maybe that's where the birthmark came from... :D

OK Folks, I just did a remix. It's a subtle change, but the melody line is a little clearer in the vocals. Harmonies are in the back seat a bit, all vocals are eq'd a little different, and the guitar has a bit more punch.

Thanks for the listening!

Great picking. As you may know (then again, maybe not) I'm a long time Grisman fan. I can dig it!
