How loud is loud? Let's find out! Here are the contest rules: post any tune you like, and the loudest average RMS wins!

There is one BIG caveat: You aren't allowed to use any compression or limiting. At. ALL. Nothing on the master bus, nothing on individual tracks, nothing on the way in. You are free to turn tracks up until they clip :D

Of course this will be on the honor system ;) Let's have fun, so no white noise tracks please!

I'll be posting my entry over the weekend, a POS song I did 5 years ago, when I first got a DAW and had no idea how to record :D

We can do a new recording? Just no compression, huh?. Does we still have to try and mix it right? Clipping is not allowed?

Average RMS? Time to Google. :) Wait, if no compression/limiting is allowed that means manipulating the RMS will be against the rules? Or is there others ways to manipulate the RMS, after the mixing? I better go Google. :)

New or old, fine with me. Mine is old, I just have to go back and remove the small amount of compression I put on bass & drums.

Clipping IS allowed. Normalizing is encouraged :D Distortion is de rigeur. Just NO COMPRESSION (except for maybe a guitar pedal, that might be OK).

Sure, you can EQ--but not de-ess, that is compression! You can add swirling reverb until it is loud mush. Lots of options, really.

"Loudness Contest"...What a disappointment. I thought this was going to be a look-alike contest for that Japanese hair band fron the 80's.

They rule!

No peak editing I suppose?

Only if you do a bad job ;)

How about fader automation? That would be OK. Riding them manually during mixdown is even better :)

not even compression on individual tracks?
i rely on comp a lot to alter sound too.....

basically, the most tallented group of players wins.

I'm thinking it's probably the most obnoxious :D

He who mixes to an analog two track probably wins this contest since it seems that natural compression would be legal here:D

Ok, here is my entry. It starts out kinda quiet then builds up. It might have even clipped a little.... :D

Roscoe's Smokin Ride
Loudness aside, nice tune. Has a touch of arabic influence in there.

OK, I gotta go try to work on something that will blow the socks of all you all's tunes. :)

How about a noise gate for the guitars? Would that be considered limiting? Can I just whip something up for this or would you prefer a proper song? A proper track done properly with structure? :)

Why gate the guitars? Leaving the noise can only help to keep your rms up for this particular outing:D

Without the gate, the chord strikes aren't as convincing. :) It's just a bunch of noise. I'd prefer the music to mean something. :)
