Does anybody else have problems with the noise level coming out of their PC? It's driving me crazy (I use a Dell Dimension 4100 / PIII 800).

I think it's the cooling fan mostly, but I'm not sure if something else might be contributing too. Has anybody come up with a workable solution for this, without breaking the bank? Any experience with replacing the fan?

well, since your dell is relatively old, cleaning out the dust inside and out of the case can be a good start. Dell's earlier case designs were good at collecting dust, so....but, their new ones are really really quiet and keep dust of them well.

If that doesn't work, loop up panaflo fans

It was already noisy when I got it new, but I didn't use it for recording then, so it didn't bother me enough to do something about it.

I had the inside cleaned out recently while dealing with a virus...

Sorry for the ignorance, but what are panaflo fans?

panaflo is a cheap fan that's actually really quiet. Sorry that I can't remember where I bought them, but they are like $2-3 a piece. Do a search here or on yahoo.

Hope that helps

does the noise just bother you naturally or does it bother you because it affects your recordings?

if it is the latter option, dont let it bother you because many hit recordings have more noise than the noise of your pc fan.

Luckily it doesn't seem to be audible in my recordings, it just nags me the way a mosquito buzzing around your head at night does.

When I'm mixing I would prefer not to hear anything but the music I'm trying to mix, no traffic, no telephone, no kids, no noisy computer fan...
