Loud computer power problems.....

Any recommendations on a quiet power source for a Presario 6000 1.4 Athalon 256 DDR Ram ?????

I thought the noise was the Fan but it is the power source for the comp.

I know my roomate has an older one of those, and he couldnt get any power supply other than the one that was already in it. Why? because it was a funny shape (l shaped) and the square ones got in the way of stuff on the mobo. His presario was so tiny and crammed it got too hot and the PSU is slowly melting (he still runs the computer, just minus cd roms.)

So Im just saying make sure you dont have one of these funky shaped PSU's in your machine. And if you do, just make sure that whatever new PSU you are looking at will fit.

Im goin to the comp shop next week with my comp to have the guy look at the problemo..... Im thinking of getting insulation foam for the inside as well. Hopefully the combination of the quite power supply and the foam will allow me to get some peace and quiet .
 
Actually, yea an ISOLATION box would be great in my opinion. I just built a machine with some fairly "quiet" equipment inside. With everything running though, there is no way I can record with certain mics, and the machine in the same room, without recording my computer!

The main thing I noticed when I threw in the old harddrive from my old Compaq, was that particular harddrive was fairly obnoxious sounding. I have since removed it.
