Hello out there I'm trying to setup my studio. I have to begin with a Zoom 8050 foot controller, midi time piece11,toneport ux8,yamaha aw4416,kurzweil pc88, k1200 keys.,5 different k1000 sound modules,ev power amp,ac 12 channel mixer, pc with echo mia midi,cubase5,and a assortment of plugins. I can not get my midi and audio setup at a basic [less wire setup]. I think I might have over kill on what I really need to get this show on the road. Anybody out there with any suggestions on how to setup or what to use or what to get rid of ?
Lost in a mess:confused:

Dumb question but,
Do you have a MIDI cable interface that goes from your keyboard to your PC?

What kind of recording/sequencing software do you have?

midi interface & sequencer

hi, i'm using a moto midi time piece II,and cubase5 software DAW, i also use a line 6 Tone Port UX8,with a yamaha aw4416 workstation. All that with sound modules has become pretty complex to setup. Do you have any ideas? Thanks for your interest.:):)

What I would do is break it down to 1, 2 or 3 pieces of gear that are essential and get those working then add on the other things. Otherwise I'd find it overwhelming.

They had a show on tv once about famous people who do crossword puzzles. One of the people they interviewed was Bill Clinton. He said that when you do crossword puzzles, you don't go from top to bottom and solve it. You skip through the whole thing, figure out what you know and do that. His point was that in any problem solving situation, you start with what you know.

So start with what you know. Get the computer, 1 keyboard and 1 module working.

I know that's general but I hope it helps get you started. :)

The suggestion to start with a few devices to get started is valid - most people don't start a MIDI system with as much gear as you have. Hook up you mixing board to your power amp - to whatever monitor speakers you use .........and then hook up one keyboard/module at a time.

To tame the MIDI issue - you could use some MIDI routers - I use a couple of 2 in 8 out that keeps things more organized and avoids the MIDI delay caused by daisy chaining multiple devices.

However, if you have 5 K1000s and a K1200 - that is 96 channels of possible MIDI (not counting other equipment in your system). Unless you are composing some amazing film scores ........ do you really need that many sound modules ......... which all can generate the same sounds?

In my studio, I have 2 keyboards, 7 sound modules and 3 smaplers - I trigger MIDI from both keyboards, from a guitar and from a MIDI drum module ......... and I have numerous MIDI controlled effects devices. Do I have 4 MIDI ins and about 36 MIDI outs.......so ..... I fully understand how complex your set-up can be.

But each sound module I use is different, most from different manufacturers - and I use select sounds from each (sounds the other can't do). I would never have 5 of the same module (unless I got a hell of a deal when I bought them)

Limiting the number of redundant modules could make your set-up much easier.

1-2-3 and away i go!!!!

Thanks so much guys on your help with my situation. I suppose i was so overwelm that i couldn't focus on the logic. But with good advice from you guys this issue has been solved and its up, up, up and away i go. So i guess until the next problem it's time to boogey you guys are great! Thanks.:)
