hey guys.

just a rough mix of my band WORLD IN ARMS song. Let me know if you have any tips or anything.

The multi-bands comp release is a bit off so the flow is kinda awkward in spots and the vocal could come up and use a bit more eq in spots, as well as the gtr being to loud randomly.

but its not a bad start. (right? haha)

I think the low-mid to mid range could use a bit of cleaning up. Work with it a bit on removing some of the mud. Maybe cut a bit more of the guitars off on the low end with a hi-pass filter.

The snare drum could come up a bit, otherwise I thought the levels were pretty good. Very good playing from all of you. I know that there's an audience for those kind of vocals, personally I prefer a vocalist to sing or to alternate between growling and singing, but to each his own....;)

Sweet! I like the groove. I usually dislike screaming, but it works here. You guys play well. Why do you use a multiband compressor? I used to use it a lot just because I threw it on there and it sounded better. I found out my mix wasn't very good in the first place. I don't use the MBC much anymore. One more thing, I would like to hear the bass more (if there is one).

thanks!

thanks all for the responses and kind words.

here is an updated mix. usually what happens is ill try to mix RIGHT after a long recording session so i start getting a bit off track in terms of what i NEED to do in order for a mix to sound good.

(i used the multi-band for "mastering" in order to dynamically push down so low-mids which were mucking everything)

i reworked the snare a bit (still needs to be louder) and i worked more with the gtr tone and vocals. the middle melodic part is weird sounding now ("if you lose hope" part) because i anticipated making room for my girlfriends vocals going over that part.

Sounds really good! I actually liked the first mix better. I think the drums could come up a little in the new one. The guitar tones are great. Vocals are good for this type of music. Cool.

tight playing, man i wish this had like Big Black or At the Drive-In style vocals at parts...drums did seem a little low in the second mix, apart from that it all sounded there to me
